Alyea Pierce, Ed.M is an award-winning author, educator, and international speaker and performance poet. As a black woman writer, her mission is to focus on what stories are not being told, and as a first-generation Caribbean-American and Higher Education Practitioner, she strives to always be conscious of what experiences make us who we are. Always aiming to listen to the voices of the unheard, Alyea centers her creative projects around the exploration of Latino & Caribbean histories, the celebration of all things woman, and the untold narratives of marginalized persons to examine identity development of youths through creative writing.

Master Classes

Reigniting Leadership Education through Art

“The Write to Speak” Master Class Series hosted by Alyea Pierce is exclusively for artists, educators, and students of all ages who want to push themselves further as creative writers, leaders, orators, and performance artists within their communities. This program series is for those wishing to critically examine their voice, enhance their artistic skills, and build their individual leadership style through theatre, and the written and spoken words.

Workshop: Back to the Basics

For entry-level writers, this transformative introductory workshop will help you learn the basics of creative writing through a social justice lens.  We will examine the foundations of a meaningful and impactful story, and participants will gain a better understanding of different writing styles and identity styles that resonate with their values and beliefs.

Workshop: History & Hip Hop

In this workshop, participants will listen to and examine different forms of powerful and purposeful poetry, oratorical works & rap lyrics.  While engaging with these different pieces, we will dissect musicality, rhythm and rhyme, and attendees will have the chance to speak their own truth!  Ranging from Dr. Martin Luther King’s, I Have a Dream speech to Tupac’s, Keep Ya Head Up, we will further look at how art can ignite movements and empower nations.

Workshop: Why Y(our) Story Matters

Storytelling can offer pathways for peacemaking and dialogue in our communities. This workshop will engage participants in tools for developing key components of finding one’s leadership style through storytelling: finding and projecting their unique voice, transforming memory into story, and personalizing folktales. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a series of creative writing and theater exercises to help them discover and build their “why”.

Keynote: The Tree of Leadership - What Are Your Branches?

The Tree of Leadership is grounded in the branches: integrity, collaboration and common purpose. In order for participants to understand their branches, they must acknowledge the various pieces of their identity that make them different; while understanding that their previous achievements are not unique, but rather, indicators of their excellence and ability to lead.
